Behavior Problems and Your Dog
Common Dog Behavior Problems
There are some behavioral traits which dogs have. They can be solved and controlled by obedience training.
Barking
Barking to some degree is normal, however when this barking is excessive then it is a behavior problem. But first find out why your dog is barking. It may be barking because of giving off a warning/ alerting you of some danger; excitement; trying to seek attention; showing boredom; feeling anxious or simply responding to other dogs.
Excessive barking can be controlled through obedience training in bark & quiet commands. However you need to have patience while teaching your dog in controlling excessive barking.
Chasing
Dogs have an instinct to chase moving things. Along with training your dog in this matter, you should also keep your dog on leash and train it to come to you when you call it. It is a good practice to keep a dog whistle with you to get its attention.
Chewing
Chewing is a normal thing for dogs; however if it causes destruction, then it is a problem. Your dog will chew on things due to anxiety, boredom and curiosity. Puppies will chew due to teething problems.
If you find your dog chewing on something, make a sharp noise to warn him and then give it a chew toy.
It is better to keep important things out of your dog’s reach. If you have to leave the dog alone at home, then confine it to one place.
To control your dog’s behavior problems, it is advised to give him lots of exercise along with training.
